This online course travels on-site with Dr. McGreevy and Troy Fry, BCBA as they deliver an 8.5 hour overview of how to utilize the EFL and it’s conception. Venture along with them as they visit Upstate Caring Partners (UCP), located in Utica, NY, USA. They observe the unique implementations of the tool occurring at UCP, talk to parents of children with moderate-to-severe disabilities, and tour the facility to help consult on unique cases utilizing the EFL.

The Essential for Living Curriculum, Method of Speaking, Teaching, Data Collection, and Progress Monitoring materials include:
Orders for the Essential for Living handbook as an e-book in English and in Spanish, along with orders for The EFL APP in English (and soon in Spanish), and the AMS Selection Tool in English and soon in Spanish, will be redirected to our trusted partner, Data Makes the Difference.
Chapter 6 of the Essential for Living Practitioner’s Handbook [EFL] is dedicated to making certain that as many individuals with moderate-to-severe disabilities as possible become effective speakers and remain so for their entire lifetime. If you are working with a child or an adult who currently does not have an effective method of speaking, and you are able to select a method for them that becomes effective, send us their story office@essentialforliving.com. With respect for their privacy, we will celebrate your and their achievement on this website.
Essential for Living is composed of 3,000 functional skills. The first three domains contain 1,900 Speaking and Listening Skills. The remaining four domains contain 1,100 Daily Living, Leisure, Vocational, Functional Academic, Tolerating, and Component Skills.
The following is a sample of these skills:

We often suggest that new users begin with one child or adult and consider teaching these first five skills:

The scope and sequence of Essential for Living are described in this document:
Click on the link below to access Excel templates that provide an alignment of skills from five of the seven skill domains in Essential for Living (EFL) with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). These skills can be considered extensions of these academic performance standards, in much the same way as skills that are part of Unique Learning Systems.
Unlike Unique, however, the skills from EFL are life skills which have been specifically designed to be taught to students with moderate-to-severe disabilities in situations similar to or the same as those which these students will encounter in everyday living.
The core deficits of autism are described by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association, 5th. Edition (DSM 5). These core deficits and the must-have skills that are part of the Essential for Living curriculum are compared in this document.
